I finally managed to squeeze some Spring Racing Carnival fashion into my season last Sunday by donning a fascinator to help emcee the Horsham West Colour Fest.

Actually, the fascinator was a part of my daughter Tiani’s ballet costume from her recent concert. It was the black feathered headpiece from her Spanish dancing horses routine.
And yes, I am painfully out of date and well aware that fascinators are so five minutes ago.
The real spring fashions being worn at the Grosser place at the moment are mosquito bite scars – from the swarms of insects haunting our doorways – and hayfever symptoms, such as irritated red eyes and aggravated dry skin. So, while watching the fashions on the field from a distance, I couldn’t help feeling that one of those flower wreath head pieces would have tipped me over the edge.
The delicate skin around my eyes was itching to be scratched even though the offending items were only brought close through the magic of television.
All those Greek Goddess-type metallic leaf headpieces, faux flora or not, made the roof of my mouth tingle.
And one never looks stylish while rubbing the tip of ones’ tongue madly back and forth across ones’ maxillary arch.
The lovely dresses with cut out shoulders and long flowing sleeves caused me concern that the exposed flesh would be eaten alive by mosquitos.
Meanwhile, the sleeves were attractive only because they might be considered handy for a sneaky mop up when one’s nose is running like a tap following a sneezing fit of 20 or more in a row.
Lovely lace at the races reminded me of scratchy lace handkerchiefs and how they are only for looks, as even the softest aloe vera tissues are struggling to perform under the demands of our family’s constant sneezing, blowing and wiping.
Skin is being ever so finely filed away to the perfect hue of pink with every soft tissue used. Less concerned with wearing just the right amount of ruffles, it has seemed more important at our place that the Grosser girls wear just the right amount of insect repellent.
Converse to my opinion in relation to tie dyed and raffia statement pieces being worn this season, my advice with insect repellent is that you can never wear too much.
