Tara Jasper and Lauren Sykes attend St Brigid’s College in Horsham.
This is the first time the Rebels have started a player pathway program for female athletes that is similar to the male program.
AFL Victoria talent manager Phil Partington said the search was on for talented athletes.
“The program used to be the Western Rebels program but it has been beefed up to a talented player pathway program,” he said.
“This is really exciting for the girls.
“We will be having a mini-TAC Cup competition for five weeks after Christmas.”
There are currently 40 female footballers on the North Ballarat Rebels Academy list, along with 15 girls aged 15 years or under on the rookie list.
“Training is on once a week in Ballarat until Christmas when there will be a break,” Partington said.
“It is great that the girls now have a pathway program like the boys. This will hopefully lead into the women’s AFL.”
