Lakers president Brent Tough said the trip is to build the team and start some unique pre-season training before the start of the season.
“The aim will be getting them to work together as a team and to accomplish certain goals,” he said.
“There will be a lot of team orientation and players will have to understand strengths and weaknesses of each other.”
Tough said that players will have to adapt to different scenarios.
“I think they will get a lot out of it, not only for sport but for life in general, like decision making, helping each other, it will be the best outcome,” he said.
The centre is used for training sessions for professional athletes.
“There will be fun involved like going to the theme parks but it will also be a mental and physical challenge for some of the boys,” he said.
Several of the 2017 under-17’s squad have been raising their own funds to put toward the trip.
Every Saturday and Sunday the players are set up at Safeway selling sausages.
“This helps the boys have responsibility and also teaches them how to work under different sorts of people,” Tough said.
The players will participate in a fun run around the Horsham streets and do laps of the Taylors Lake oval to contribute funds.
“Everyone has to put in an effort to raise the money,” Tough said.
“If they don’t put in the effort they won’t be able to attend the trip.”
To contribute to the trip and the hard work of the under-17s people can head to Safeway from 12 to 2 on the weekend for a sausage or call Tough on 0429 707 306 or email the club at lakersfnc@hotmail.com.
