Following a forecast high of 37 degrees, a cold front moved in and brought wind and rain in the hours before the concert.
Attendees were still able to enjoy classic and modern Christmas carols from the Children's Choir, Primary School Combined Choir and Signing Choir.
Event organising committee member Simon Dandy said people had time to change their minds and head out to Sawyer Park.
“It was a good turnout considering the rain that was there for most of the afternoon,” he said.
“I think someone was looking down on us because the rain stopped at about 5:15pm when everything was kicking off and didn’t start again at all.
“Turnout was probably down on other years but obviously the weather played a bit of a part.”
The event also raised $2295 for the Rachel’s Wish campaign for the Wimmera Cancer Centre.
Organisers estimated that 2000 to 3000 people attended, which was less than the 4000 figure from some other years,
Mr Dandy said it was still a great night.
“You couldn’t have asked for better, once it stopped raining.” he said.
Mr Dandy said word got out on radio and social media that the carols were still going ahead.
“They really worked hard to make announcements. There’s no doubt a few people change their mind and came out,” he said.
“It was a good mix of carols for the kids and adults in the crowd.”
