Every year the Horsham Carols by Candlelight collects donations for five minutes at the event for an organisation. 

Carols committee member Ruth Emmerson said the committee decided to chose an charity that had affected the Wimmera. 

“The committee talked and came to the conclusion that cancer really does affect all of us,” she said. 

“From what I have read the stats are high out here and the there isn’t anywhere nearby people can get treatment. 

“So we hope this donation will raise awareness and money for the Wimmera Cancer Centre.” 

At the carols, Wimmera Cancer Centre fundraiser committee chairwoman Amelia Crafter said the money would help raise awareness of cancer in the region and it would help set up the cancer centre in the Wimmera. 

Mrs Emmerson said this year although just under 3000 people attended the carols and donations were generous.

“We had lots of notes, which shows the generosity of the community,” she said.

“We are thrilled with the response.

“It was an amazing effort from everyone who came.”
