Police are yet to identify the remains, which were discovered in scrub beside the Frankston Freeway on Saturday. .
They have arrested a 49-year-old Langwarrin man as part of their investigation into the disappearance of missing mother Karen Rae.
He is in custody and assisting missing person squad detectives with their investigation.
The 48-year-old Ms Rae was last seen leaving her Adib Court home in Frankston North on April 15 last year.
They were back on the scene on Saturday, looking under bushes, in drains and digging up dirt by the Frankston Freeway.
City-bound traffic on the Frankston Freeway, between Cranbourne and Seaford roads, has been reduced to one lane.
The hunt for Ms Rae was handed to the cold case missing persons squad last May.
