The jockey was left dangling from the reins underneath Amity Val as the gates opened and the horse lunged early.
A quick-acting barrier attendant dragged McKechnie back to the top of her stall to safety while the five-year-old mare stayed in the barrier.
Amity Val was scratched from the restart of the race and McKechnie appeared not to be harmed.
She returned to the track on the back of Kingdom of Rain in the next race of the day to demonstrate there were no lasting ill-effects of the mishap. McKechnie’s last two scheduled rides were scratched.
