WIMMERA storages are continuing to fill, with predictions harvest will continue for another two to three weeks.
AWB Grainflow Dimboola site manage Ken Ough said harvest had been slow this season.
“It’s been stop-start this week because of the weather but things are ticking over,” he said.
“We aren’t breaking any records yet because of the weather.
“There is still a lot of grain out there though – we’ve probably got another two or three weeks to go.
“Some guys have been saying they are only halfway through.”
Mr Ough said the quality had been good.
“Barley has been going about half-half malt and feed at the moment,” he said.
“Wheat has been mostly ASW grade.
“We are getting good quantities too.”
Mr Ough said prices were still not good.
“Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about that though,” he said.
Shannon Bros’ Clayton Shannon said harvest had been smooth sailing at both the business’ Beulah and Horsham sites.
“We’ve been pretty lucky with the weather so far,” he said.
“We only had one bad wind storm that caused a bit of havoc with the bunkers.
“Quality has been really good.
“Pulses have had a few issues with weed seeds but overall things are going very well.”
Mr Shannon said harvest at the Beulah site was finishing up.
“There are just a few growers on the back end that are still coming in,” he said.
“At Horsham, with fine weather this week, I would say most growers would be about 70 to 80 per cent through by the end of the week.”
Mr Shannon said quantity had also been up.
“Tonnages are fantastic,” he said.
“The biggest problem we have though is having to turn guys away when they bring in grain for a segregation that is already full.
“We understand it’s frustrating for farmers, but at the end of the day we can only do the best we can.”
