The announcement followed Ms Pulford’s meeting with Northern Grampians Shire Council in December after Stawell Gold Mines made 150 jobs redundant two weeks before Christmas.
“There has been a power of work going on in this community in that very short period of time since the community heard the really difficult news about Stawell Gold Mines future,” Ms Pulford said.
“There is nothing more important for regional communities and the community of Stawell than for people having a job and being able to find a job.”
The website will work like a Facebook homepage where both job hunters and employers would post who they were, where they were located and what they could offer.
The site also had a separate content area including helpful tips and a resource with links to other resources that were related to finding employment.
“This is just brilliant, you do not have to be some tech-wiz to navigate the site,” Ms Pulford said.
“We know this is a tried and tested method and has demonstrated great results in other communities and so I am delighted today to officially launch the Jobs For Stawell website.”
Laid off Stawell Gold Mines worker and Stawell resident Karl Meyer had heard of many former colleagues who had left the town to find work.
He said the new employment initiative would help motivate skilled workers to remain at Stawell.
“This is a fantastic idea and I will definitely be using it on my job hunt,” Mr Meyer said.
“Stawell is my home and I do not want to leave town or find a fly in fly out job like many of my colleagues are doing, it is great news for Stawell.”
Jobs For Stawell was available on desktop, mobile and tablet browsers.
