Tom Dunn, the young Horsham man behind the paddle, will stand-up paddle-board 3750 kilometres to raise money and awareness for the foundation.
Mr Dunn will start his trip on January 27 in Warwick, Queensland, on the Condamine River. He will then follow the Murray-Darling system all the way through to the Murray River’s mouth in South Australia.
The journey will take Mr Dunn and his support crew roughly three months to complete.
Mr Dunn said that he had two goals he wanted to reach.
“Really all I want to do is spread awareness and raise money for Deaf Children Australia,” he said.
The sum Mr Dunn is aiming to raise is $60,000.
“What I want to help with is making video conferencing available for deaf children in rural and remote places of Australia,” he said.
“This will help the children with family communication, education and learning sign language delivered by deaf specialists.”
Mr Dunn said he hoped to help both deaf children and their families through his money raising efforts.
He said families of deaf children dedicated significant time and money to travel to and from the city to meet with hearing specialists.
Mr Dunn said after experiencing his parents travelling up to eight hours for his sister over several years he wanted to make a difference.
“They would travel from Horsham to Melbourne and back. As a kid I never really realised the significance of it, but now that I’m older I understand how valuable time and money is,” he said.
“To see the benefits that those Melbourne trips had on my sister as well was incredible.”
