1. We live in a flat area, and yet still manage to have the world-famous mountains Grampians and Arapiles at our doorsteps. Best of both worlds!

2. Other places might have fancy ice-creameries, but for Wimmera people, we know the best ice-cream in the world is a scoop of Peters from Halls Gap. And we’ll do our best to prove it to visitors.
3. Forget the beach. We’ve got lakes galore, plus the Wimmera River! We might not be recreating Baywatch or anything like that, but who needs it when you can go wake-boarding, water-skiing, yabbying, fishing and swimming, all in one location!
4. Our sunsets. They’re the focus of many an Instagram picture with #nofilter required. In fact, back in 2012 former Mail-Times journalist Ted O’Connor took issue with our sunsets for showing off! You can read his argument here.
5. The people. We’re battlers – whether you’re a farmer or not, the drought had an effect on you. Luckily, despite the hard times, we’ve stuck together. And you can see that support in the many successful community events we enjoy each year. From the individual school fetes and hospital fundraisers, to larger projects such as the Horsham and District Relay For Life and fundraising for Rachael’s Wish, if there’s something that needs our support, we’re ready to help those in need.
6. Our landscapes are ever-changing and they’re beautiful. You can tell exactly what time of year it is just by driving along the Western Highway – and you know if you’re seeing canola galore, it’s warm weather time.
7. Have we mentioned the weather yet? Whether you’re a cold frog or you hate the idea of sunlight, our weather will provide something for you. After all, in this summer alone we’ve experienced 40+-degree days, bucketloads of rain, days where all you want is a scarf and a hot chocolate… the Wimmera’s got you covered!
8. How frustrating is the two-hour morning commute in traffic moving at a snail’s pace? Wait, we don’t experience that. Everyone knows country living equals no traffic jams. Even if we do get annoyed being stuck at red lights – we’re only human!
9. Sport. It’s no secret a large majority of Wimmera people love and play sport. Whether it’s cricket, tennis, bowls, swimming, basketball in summer, or soccer, footy, netball, hockey in winter, or table tennis, horse racing, clay target shooting, pigeon racing, motocross, gliding, rock-climbing, water-skiing or one of the other many sports here in the Wimmera, there’s something for you to try or support. And if you’re not a sports fan? Enjoy your Saturday sleeping in, going out for brunch without struggling to get a table, and making the most of a nearly-deserted town when everyone else is at a final.
10. Despite how good country living can be, sometimes you just want or need access to the city. And lucky for us, the Wimmera is smack-bang in the middle of two capital cities. A few hours either direction and you’ll end up in Adelaide or Melbourne. No complaints here!
