In a very timely move, the site will feature information and demonstrations of the use of electronic identification systems for sheep.
On January 1, all sheep and goats born in Victoria are required to have an electronic identification tag linked to the National Livestock Identification System.
The tag will need to be in place before the livestock move property, are taken to the saleyards or are sold to an abattoir.
Elders Rural Services manager Mick Preston said this season’s lambs were due to drop in April so the information was very timely for people. The popular Waratah Fencing demonstrations will be returning to the Wimmera Machinery Field Days as part of the Elders display.
The demonstration has drawn crowds of onlookers to the site for the past 10 years.
“It shows ways to build a neater, faster fence, as they cut it down and rebuild it,” Mr Preston said.
“It’s interactive and it’s real, and it has been very popular over the years.”
The focus of the Elders display, a 30-metre wide area at the centre of the field days site, would be on providing information on products for clients and producers.
Mr Preston encouraged people to drop in to the Elders site for information on anything agribusiness, from agronomy to fertiliser, animal health to real estate, insurance and anything farming.
