Horsham Saints Red could not match the quality of second-placed Quantong at Taylors Lake. Qunatong batted first to compile 235 runs for the loss of five wickets on the back of a James Hallett half-century and 40s from Peter Brand and Matthew Cummings. Despite many of the Saints batsmen making starts none made more than 30 as the side fell 62-runs short of Quantong’s score.
Lubeck-Murtoa’s loss to Colts was more of an upset on Dudley Cornell’s hard wicket. Colts batted first and looked comfortable out in the middle right from the start. Openers Brian Tucker and Colin Flack each retired after reaching 50 before the side eventually lost its first wicket on 126. Kevin Purchase, 36, and Ben Muir, 26, kept the score ticking over as Lubeck-Murtoa were eventually set a target of 209 to win. Christopher Schapper’s 51 was a long hand in the chase with as Lubeck-Murtoa finished 9-177.
Horsham Saints Black warmed up for finals by smashing Blackheath-Dimboola by 180 runs. Pat Niehus and Thomas Wentworth each scored 50, and Matt Butler made 45 as the Saints scored 245 before bowling the home side out for 65.
