The play is a contemporary portrayal of Australian men dealing with issues of health, grief, loss and depression.
Horsham Rural City Council, Rotary Club of Horsham East, AXIS Employment BCH Accountants, Horsham Veterinary Clinic and Hospital welcome the play as a part of the city’s annual mental health program.
Mr Wood said Carpe Diem was a didactic comedy that delivers the mental health messages in a way that was entertaining, immediate and highly relevant.
It stresses the importance of mate-ship and professional care in times of crises.
“It’s a very Australian thing – not just male, necessarily – to feel that it’s none of our business and that someone knows what they’re doing,’ he said.
“But men need to ask the questions and not ignore their apparent depression or inner pain.”
Fellow actor and general manager at Lifeline Albury Chris Pidd said the play was written by Megan Rigoni and inspired by experiences of people she knew.
“This compelling story will help break down the stigma of seeking support early when life gets tough,” he said.
“The play depicts so beautifully how two mates can help each other in times of need.”
The free play will be performed at the Wesley Performing Arts Centre on April 5 at 7pm.
Gold coin donations for Healthy Minds Horsham are welcome.
The play will also be performed in Warracknabeal Hall on April 3 and St Arnaud Town Hall on April 4.
