The sculpture was called ‘never take a backwards step’ and depicted Australia’s coat of arms.
Mr Knight said about 110 hours went in to creating the sculpture.
“The coat of arms was something I just woke up and thought of, being an Aussie bloke,” he said.
“Then I started sourcing parts from farms – there was a lot of cutting and changing.
“You get frustrated at times but in the end, it’s a good result.”
Mr Knight said he thought the sculpture would only take 40 hours.
“In the end I had about a week to spare when I finished it,” he said.
“My wife will be happy to see me know – I’ve spent that much time in the shed.”
Mr Knight said the emu was made out of an old header.
"I cut the front off it and added nuts and bolts,” he said.
“The kangaroo is made from old hinges and old farm machinery parts.
“The shield is actually an old wagon wheel that I straightened out.”
Mr Knight has been entering the awards for about 10 years.
“I enjoy doing it – it keeps me active,” he said.
“It’s always good to do something different each time.”
Mr Knight will name enter his creation in the national farm sculpture awards at the Spirit of the Land festival in Lockhart, NSW.
