Hamilton beat fellow Australians Michael Storer and Jai Hindley in a sprint to the line to claim the under-23 gold medal.
Hamilton told Fairfax that the race went according to plan.
"It was a pretty tough day out there with lots of repetitive climbing,” he said.
“We were on the pedals for most of the day with not much flat road out there.
"It was a full gas to the line at the end, we are all pretty punchy in our own way but today's sprint probably suited me."
It was Hamilton’s last event in Australia before he returns to Europe for the summer cycling season.
Hamilton said he was proud to wear the winners jersey.
"Hopefully I will be back to defend the title," Hamilton said.
The 21-year-old will to Europe later this month.
