Halls Gap Senior Constable Kellie Harris said the Toorak Gardens man was hiking or walking with a group when he started to vomit and suffered pain in his neck and shoulders.
She said the man was unable to keep walking so a friend from the group walked to the police station.
Stawell police, State Emergency Services, Parks Victoria and Ambualnce Victoria all responded, using a mule stretcher to wheel the man to safety.
Senior Constable Harris said the man was conveyed to Stawell hospital for further monitoring.
She said the rescue took about two and a half hours. She encouraged residents and visitors to hike with another person to ensure if someone got into trouble, help could be reached.
She said there were no incidents at the long weekend despite a large amount of visitors.
