Teacher Teresa Moore said the school ran a program that involved grade five and six students pairing up with prep students.
She said for two 15-minute sessions a week, the older and younger students read to each other.
“It’s a great way to help the children get more confident in their reading throughout the year,” she said.
“They are also more confident in the playground because they have a buddy looking out for them.”
Ms Moore said the students enjoyed the program.
“The year six students love it as much as the preps do,” she said.
Ms Moore said the buddy system happened ran every year.
“It gives the older students a sense of leadership and enhances their skills,” she said.
“For the younger student, they love having a buddy and someone that thinks they are important.”
The program runs throughout the entire year.
