Indonesian students in year 10, 11 and 12 will travel to Java and Bali for about three weeks.
Indonesian teacher Jill Kube said 12 students and four staff were going on the trip.
She said the trip would include cultural activities such as dancing and art.
“We will go to Yogyakarta in Java, which is the cultural capital of Indonesia,” she said.
“There we will visit an orangutan rehabilitation centre.”
Students will then travel to an Indonesian school.
“We have had a relationship with the school for a while, with two students coming over here a few years ago,” Mrs Kube said.
“Our students have been emailing students there and we had a Skype session last week.”
The students will end the trip with a few days in Bali.
“Everyone is really excited – for many of them it’s their first overseas trip and for some it’s their first time on a plane,” Mrs Kube said.
She said the students had also been selling prawn crackers at lunch time to raise money.
She said the money would go to a place of need in Indonesia.
“The fundraiser gave them an opportunity to work together as a team before we went,” she said.
Mrs Kube said the trip would help students with their language skills.
“Our guide will talk to the students in Indonesian and at the school they will have conversations in Indonesian too,” she said.
“It’s also a great opportunity to see different cultural activities first-hand – nothing can match that experience.”
Mrs Kube said former college students had studied in Indonesia after leaving school.
“This trip gives them the courage to start something bigger,” she said.
Mrs Kube said students from prep to year 12 could learn Indonesian at the college.
