Russian artist Julia Volchkova is painting a mural as part of Yarriambiack Shire’s Silo Art Trail.
The trail consists of painted silos at Brim, Sheep Hills, Patchewollock, Rupanyup, Rosebery and Lascelles.
Volchkova started the artwork on Friday night.
Melbourne artist Georgia Goodie is assisting her.
Yarriambiack Mayor Graeme Massey said it was terrific to see the next stage of the trail progressing.
“I met Julia and Georgia at the community barbecue last week and they are very talented women,” he said.
Cr Massey said he understood the mural would be of Rupanyup people.
“We are extremely fortunate to have these world-renowned artists come to the shire to work,” he said.
Cr Massey said there was no doubt that Rupanyup and surrounding towns would benefit from the mural.
“Tourists will come and see the silos and the tourism will continue to nearby towns,” he said.
“All of the towns involved in the trail will benefit. There have already been stories of people coming through Rupanyup asking when the artist will be painting because they want to come and watch it happen.
“It’s not just the finished product that is attracting visitors – people want to watch the artists too. The shire can only benefit from this project.”
Silos at Brim, Patchewollock and Sheep Hills are complete while Rosebery and Lascelles will be painted later year.
