The day is being supported by the Warracknabeal and District ‘Tradies’ who will sponsor the day’s competitions.
Club president Allan Ross said it was fantastic to have the support of the ‘tradies’.
“It is much appreciated as the club strives to keep this town asset at a high standard,” he said.
“It helps attract people to visit or come and live in the area.”
Currently the club relies on a manually arranged bayonet watering system.
The idea of replacing the system with a fully automated system has been floated around for couple of year but received a boost when partial funding was secured in more recent times.
“Because someone has to manually go out and place the sprinklers it can take a long to to water the whole course,” Ross said.
“It can take weeks and then we have to go around to start watering again.”
Two grants of $100000 from have already been through state and federal government programs leaving the club with a much smaller bill to foot.
The total cost of $260000 would allow the club to install a new pump, approximately 360 sprinklers, between 15 and 20 kilometres of piping, and a computerised control panel.
“It would be the biggest project the club has ever undertaken,” Ross said.
“We’re hoping that by July or August will have got all the money together and that would be an ideal time to put the system in because it would allow the course to recover before the Summer.
“If we can not get it by then we would most likely have to wait another year.”
The club has already raised $10000 but is hoping to improve on the amount during April.
Ross said the course upgrades would have a wider benefit to the Wimmera.
“There are three major golf courses in the Wimmera; Horsham, Nhill and Warracknabeal,” he said.
“Once this gets done we will be up on their level again.
“We then hope to be able to promote packages enticing people to come play the three courses.”

Fun Day
SUDAY’S main event will be a four person ambrose tournament with an 11.30am hit off after players are asked to assemble at 11am.
Ross said the day would was about raising more awareness of the project in a hope of garnering further support.
“We have deliberately looked at targeting the demographic of tradesmen because we will be using locals as part of the project when we get it up,” he said.
“Not only is that part of the conditions of the funding but we also feel it is important to help the community we rely on.”
The club encourages anyone to take part regardless of whether or not they have a handicap.
Teams can be made up on the day and there is a variety of prizes on offer.
Novelty items can also be won by taking part in putting and chipping competitions as well as the usual straightest drive, longest drive and nearest to the pin prizes on offer.
Entry is $20 per head and includes afternoon tea. Lunch can be purchased for an extra $5 and includes a bottle of water.
