A prisoner was taken to hospital after he was injured during an "altercation" at a new correctional facility south west of Melbourne.

Police and paramedics were called about 8.40pm on Tuesday, to reports of a man with upper body injuries, at Karreenga??? prison on Bacchus Marsh Road in Lara.
It's believed a man received a cuts to his head during an altercation with another man, a police spokeswoman said.
The 49-year-old male prisoner was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital in a stable condition.
Corrections Victoria said the prisoner had since been discharged from hospital and was taken back to the prison.
"A prisoner was taken to hospital as a precaution following an altercation with another prisoner at Karreenga prison in Lara last night," a Corrections spokesman said.
"The prisoner has since been discharged from hospital and has been taken back to the prison. Victoria Police is investigating the incident."
Karreenga prison, a $100 million facility attached to Marngoneet Correctional Centre, opened at the end of last year and houses up to 300 prisoners.
