Involvement included staff being on committees, working bees, selling bales of hay and general student and staff involvement during the three day event.
A big roll up of visitors and prospective students attended our site at the recent the field days followed on by keen interest as we promoted the college at the South East Field Days at Lucindale and throughout western Victoria last week.
The first term has been busy with welcoming students to the college and the Wimmera, helping settle the students into college life and supporting their studies in their respective courses.
The second year students in the Certificate IV in Agriculture and the second year Advanced Diploma of Agribusiness Management students start their work placements next week and they will return to the college in July.
The industry placement program offers students a range of diverse opportunities within the agricultural industry to explore and work in. This program enables students wishing to travel and work overseas to do so.
We have a number of students taking this opportunity to head to Canada and New Zealand in the coming weeks.
This program could potentially lead to exciting career opportunities with students being offered full-time work on completion of their course, which the college has seen many times before.
The college has hosted groups recently including Australian Fertiliser Service Association, Victorian No-Till Association, Southern Australia Durum Growers Association, Victoria Police and only last week welcomed back students enjoying their 70th Longerenong College reunion. Last week a group of very proud Longerenong College students crossed the stage and collected their graduating testamurs.
The evening was an opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of our students in front of a large audience.
It is motivating for everyone to see the rewards of hard work and commitment.
The guest speaker was former student Kate Cross, who began her journey at Longerenong College at 15 years old with our VETiS program.
She completed her VCE and studied the Advanced Diploma of Agriculture and Diploma of Agronomy and is now working at Bayer CropScience.
Kate’s address to the crowd and graduates was a reflection of her journey.
The students start holidays this week and will return after their break to start four weeks of shearing school.
