Centre manager Allison Roberts said staff and customers marked the birthday by digging out their ‘80s clothes, donning a perm and reminiscing about 1987.
“It’s been a really busy day with many of our stores dressed up to the ‘80s theme,” she said.
“It’s getting busier as week goes on and more and more (people) learn about the photobooth and activities.”
Ms Roberts said people flocked to the plaza to celebrate the significant milestone and share what the centre meant to them.
“I spoke to a gentleman who originally worked at Telecom and had a part in building the foundations,” she said. “He was there right from the very start and saw it through to very end. He attended the official building opening and received an engraved gold set of coasters – he brought one in and showed me.”
Ms Roberts said the events celebrated what a significant part of the Wimmera the Horsham Plaza had become.
“We’re Australian and we love to celebrate anyway – but the plaza is a part of Horsham and the whole region’s life,” she said.
“It’s been around for so many years as a part of life, so it’s great to recognise that.
“It’s been such a happy week with laughter and memories. People have been looking at the dresses on display and being taken back to the ‘80s. The memory board is filled with people reminiscing.”
