The zoo is now calling for the community’s help to name the twins.
Senior keeper Brit Hide said a boy and a girl were born at the end of December, but emerged from their mother’s pouch last week.
“They are extremely cute,” she said.
“They are getting some attitude about them now, especially the girl.”
Ms Hide said keepers do regular pouch checks of their marsupials and noticed the bilbies in December.
“We’ve been waiting for them to come out,” she said.
“They stay in the pouch for about 75 to 80 days, after a 12 to 14-day pregnancy.
“It’s one of the shortest pregnancies of any animal.”
Ms Hide said the zoo’s new stars were starting to go viral on social media.
She said the zoo was now running a competition to name them.
“Through our Facebook page, we want people to suggest a name for the bilbies,” she said.
“The names with the most likes will win.
“The people with the winning suggestions will win a family pass to the zoo where they can come and meet the bilbies.
“We’ve asking for Australia names, so Banjo and Matilda have already been suggested a few times.
“People can make any suggestion they like.”
Ms Hide said there had already been hundreds of submissions.
The competition winners will be announced on Easter Monday.
“We planned it well – just in time for Easter,” Ms Hide said.
