Police across the state are targeting speed, fatigue, distraction, seatbelt non-compliance and impaired driving as part of Operation Nexus.
Acting Sergeant Dave Sanders, of Bendigo Highway Patrol, said 10 people had lost their licence for driving more than 25km/h over the speed limit since the operation began on Thursday.
A total of 64 people have been caught speeding, with Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday being the most prevalent days.
Sixty per cent of those drivers were travelling between 10-25km/h over the speed limit.
One person was arrested on Sunday afternoon after police caught a motorcyclist doing a “mono” in Jackass Flat and travelling above 125km/h in a 60km/h zone.
Acting Sergeant Sanders said the motorcycle was impounded and a man would be charged on summons.
A Flora Hill probationary driver also lost her licence on Monday afternoon for speeding and drink-driving.
The woman was caught doing 143km/h on the Calder Freeway and also recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.081.
Acting Sergeant Sanders said if the woman was travelling at a slightly higher speed – above 145km/h – she would have had her car impounded.
“That sort of speed during the festive period, with cars coming and going everywhere, it’s ludicrous, especially when she’s supposed to have no alcohol in her system at all,” he said.
Police officers performed about 2500 preliminary breath tests over the five days, with no other driver found to be above the legal limit.
Two drivers out of 24 tested for drugs returned a positive result; 20 unregistered vehicles were found; and three phone and one seatbelt offences were detected.
Acting Sergeant Sanders urged motorists to take care on the roads and be mindful of roadworks.
“Just slow down – you will get to your destination eventually,” he said.
“Police are still going to be out and about with drug tests, drink-driving tests and targeting speed.
“Don’t speed, don’t drink-and-drive and you’ll get home in one piece.”
Operation Nexus runs until Anzac Day.
