Eight teams will take part in this year’s season and round one is all set for May 7.
Young Horsham Saints footballers took Hamilton on in a practice match at Coughlin Park on Sunday in preparation for the season.
Coach Matt Taylor said it was a good first hit out.
“They loved it out there” he said.
“Both sides were really hard and in at the ball. It was a good even contest.”
Aside from a scattering of players who had played with the Great Western Rebels girls side it was a first game for many of the Saints players.
Taylor was impressed by a lot of the smaller things he noticed them starting to do.
“It was the one-percenters like laying shepherds that were really good to see,” he said.
“The difference five or six weeks of training has made is huge.
“They really started to look more and more like footballers out there.”
Players from the side are excited to get the season started but Taylor expects the side will be sore tomorrow.
“It’s going to be a fun eight weeks,” he said.
“If any girls are still interested in playing we would love to have them.”
The Horsham Demons and Stawell Warriors will also have teams in the league.
