A LONG list of of 69 players have been included in a preliminary squad to represent the Wimmera Football League in its community championship match against the Murray Football League.

Interleague coach John Delahunty said the large squad was a way of ensuring each club was well represented.
“The squad includes all the players still in the league who defeated Sunraysia last season and we have also added in a few more,” he said. “There is some high quality players that have come into the league.”
Players like Deek Roberts, Luke Fisher and Sean Mentell come into the squad and will go some way to filling the hole left by the departure of Nick Pekin who is playing for Harrow-Balmoral this season.
Delahunty said there was lots of experience and leadership within the squad. “Players like Zander Mcrae, Fergus O’Connor, Ryan McKenzie and Shannon Argall are great players and great leaders,” he said.
Young players like Dimboola’ Ben Miller and Warrack’s Riley Morrow also feature int he squad.
“Ben was not far off getting a game last season and continued to perform well,” he said. “Riley built up as the season progressed. I think it is really important to get as many young players around the squad as possible as well.”
The squad will have a training session on May 3 and two more in the week leading up to the May 13 game at Moama.
