Horsham Agricultural Society has announced the carnival will be on September 30 – the night before the show.
Director Andrea Cross said the society wanted to build up the show.
“The show falls on a long weekend this year due to the AFL grand final,” she said.
“Our aim is to attract more young people with the riverfront-only carnival on Saturday night, while building up the show with a major attraction to be announced soon,” Mrs Cross said.
The twilight carnival will be on grand final day.
The society put the idea to the community, asking for feedback on its Facebook page earlier this week.
Mrs Cross said about 70 per cent of people were in favour of a twilight carnival.
“Facebook is a great platform to gauge community feedback and consultation is very important to us before major decisions are made,” she said. Another new development to this year’s show will be a joint partnership with the city’s Art is… festival.
Mrs Cross said the festival would present the inaugural World Cubby Summit on October 2.
“The World Cubby Summit is a world-first community event that uses the metaphor of building cubbies as a platform for sharing and exploring a range of life lessons,” she said.
“This will provide more activities for families and build the traditional show day audience, ensuring Horsham as a destination in the September-October school holidays.”
The summit will include a range of speakers and sessions. Art is…. festival director Paul Kooperman said the summit would strengthen the partnership between the festival and Horsham Agricultural Society.
“We are pooling resources to co-create a wonderful inclusive community event and to increase exposure for Art is…outside of festival time,” he said.
Show horse events will run on October 3 and 4.
