Road Trauma Support Services Victoria is hosting a free road safety event at the Wimmera Trade Training Centre in Horsham on May 7 from 2pm to 4pm.
Services regional co-ordinator Kelly Fletcher said everyone was invited to come along to the interactive community event as part of the Shine a Light on Road Safety campaign.
“The event is open to all ages and people in all stages of life,” she said.
“As a community, it is vital that we share the responsibility for stopping the deaths and injuries on our roads.
“We must also come together in support of the people in our midst who live with the reality of road trauma, be they bereaved family members and friends, the injured, drivers involved in road crashes, emergency service workers or witnesses.”
“The road toll reaches far beyond the number of deaths and injuries counted each year.”
The community event, will have a fun-style family feud, entertainment from students, food and refreshments, goodie bags, door prizes, key road safety messages and much more.
Ms Fletcher said the event was also a fundraiser and the money raised would be used in the community.
Schools across the region have been encouraged to get involved by running a free dress day inviting students to dress in yellow to Shine a Light on Road Safety.
Students involved in the Deadly Bike project are gifting a custom-built bike to be raffled across schools leading up to the event, to help raise money for the campaign.
“This is a fun and engaging event for everyone, as well as a fundraising activity with community organisations, businesses and emergency services supporting the event,” Ms Fletcher said.
“We hope people learn key road safety messages and enjoy coming together as a community.”
Ms Fletcher said people could get their free tickets online at eventbrite.com.au/e/shine-a-light-on-road-safety-wimmera-event-tickets-33264212154.
“We would like people to register for catering purposes,” she said.
“There is also door prizes available for those who have a ticket.”
The Shine a Light on Road Safety campaign has the support of the state government, VicRoads and TAC.
