The side registered an emphatic 16.13 (109) to 0 win at Coughlin Park.
Saints coach Matt Taylor said even he was surprised by the result in his side’s first game.
“I was expecting it to a be a little closer,” he said.
“The practice match helped us but it was great to have the team out there playing for points for the first time.”
A good crowd of parents as well as other interested sports spectators watched the Saints side run all over its opposition.
“I didn’t notice it a lot when I was coaching but I saw some photos after the game and there was quite a few people were around us in the huddles,” Taylor said.
“There was certainly some noise around.”
With the scoreboard not a major concern Taylor was just pleased to see everyone involved.
He said every player took a mark, had a kick or had a handball during the match.
“The team has come together so well,” he said.
“They have a laugh together before the game but then it is all football once we start.”
For some of the Saints players it was the first time they had played a team sport.
“To give them that opportunity in a new environment was awesome,” Taylor said.
