Following an invitation for public comment, Horsham council will consult with Victoria Police and request the changes from VicRoads.
Horsham council intends to increase the speed limit on Rasmussen Road, Horsham from 60 to 80 kilometres per hour.
It also intends to change a 500 m section between Jenkinson Avenue and Hillary Street on Remlaw Road, Horsham from 50 to 80 km/h.
Hunts Road, Haven, between the Henty Highway and Old Hamilton Road would receive 80 km/h signs.
Councillor Josh Koenig said he supported the changes but asked if there were any plans to improve road markings or widen the shoulders on Rasmussen Road.
“I have taken that road a few times and it seems a bit narrow,” he said.
Council Infrastructure manager Martin Duke said he wasn’t aware of any works.
Cr Mark Radford he supported Cr Koenig’s call and said the placement of signs would be important.
One resident on Rasmussen Road told Horsham council that increasing the speed limit was a sensible suggestion.
Another resident stated there were too many driveways and the road was too narrow and undulating for 80 km/h.
“In doing these tests I found that 80 km/h was excessive due to the state of the roadway. In this short distance I find that there would be absolutely no sensible reason to increase the speed limit just to save 27 seconds,” the resident stated.
