Ararat Rural City Council may be allocating funds to a new annual running event to occur at the Ararat Wind Farm.

Organised by Australian-based event company, 100% Events, the festival would be aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle as well as renewable energy. Organisers say about 70 per cent of the expected 900 participants would be visitors.

It would be family friendly and would potentially include a 21km half marathon, 14km run and a 5km and 2.5km fun run for people of all ages and abilities.

Council funding would be allocated from its event development budget.

“It would bring tourists and benefits for the broader community,” Ararat mayor Paul Hooper said.

“It’s now up to the organisers if they want to proceed with it.”
