Dr Greenberg is a consultant general physician at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
“I’ve spent all of my professional life at the Royal Melbourne Hospital except for three years that my wife and I lived in London,” he said.
“I always worked about half the time in private practice and half the time in public hospital practice.”
Dr Greenberg said he wanted to reconnect with the Wimmera.
“I lived in Horsham as a child between 1946 and early 1956. I lived in Nhill for six months. I went to primary school and early secondary school in Horsham.
“I had a wonderful childhood in Horsham and I was keen at this stage of my life to re-establish connections with Horsham and the Wimmera.
“I wanted, if possible, to contribute something to the community.”
Dr Greenberg said he had brought his private and public hospital clinical skills to the Wimmera Health Care group board.
“I have also spent a lot of my professional life looking at issues of quality of care through the board of Western Health and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians,” he said.
Dr Greenberg said he was concerned about the shortage of general practitioners.
“I don’t have any special knowledge in retaining doctors but I recognise it as a major issue,” he said.
“I have always thought the most important part of the Australian healthcare system is the family GP.”
