Wimmera Southern Mallee LLEN project officer Mary Bysouth said the students, aged 15 to 18, had been to different retail, hospitality and community care organisations.
“It’s about promoting local employers to the students and giving them a look at industries they might want to join,” she said.
Huilong managing director Haobing Li told the students the joint Chinese-Australian company’s Dimboola Road warehouse served as its national headquarters.
“Huilong Agrochemicals is part of the third largest chemical manufacturer in China, probably the world,” he said.
“We have over 20 different factories, 70 distribution centres and 2800 chain stores in 60 countries.
“We import our chemicals from China. We are looking at exporting products form this region to China, like wine and olive oil.”
Mr Li told the students that the warehouse employed people with a range of backgrounds, from salespeople and agronomists to forklift drivers.
Horsham student Dana Whitehead, age 16, said she had been looking at becoming a mechanic.
“I’m interested in doing something with motors,” she said.
“I might go into agriculture given that’s in my background. It’s something I could get into.”
