Players represented Horsham, Mt Gambier, Hamilton and Warrnambool at Maydale Pavillion.
Horsham Table Tennis Association president Jeff Pekin said the tournament was a great success.
“I just had a phone call from one of the Horsham members congratulating us on how things were run,” he said.
“It was also good to see Mt Gambier win a shield. They have struggled for numbers in recent years but sent a strong team to win the veterans.”
Mt Gambier won 22 rubbers to finish five six clear of Warrnambool in second place in the veteran’s shield.. Horsham was third with 14 rubbers and Hamilton won eight rubbers to finish fourth.
Hamilton’s Daryl Rankin and Horsham’s Leon Forrest represented their associations strongly to each win five of their six rubbers in veterans A.
Mt Gambier’s win was set up by Ben Newman and Scott Davies who each won all six of their veterans B rubbers.
In the juniors Hamilton edged out Horsham after a countback. Both teams won 22 rubbers but Hamilton won four more games in the best of five rubbers to win the shield.
Warrnambool was third with 10 rubbers, and Mt Gambier won six rubbers.
Pekin said it was great to see Horsham’s juniors do well again.
“We’re going in the right direction,” he said.
“Juniors are the future of any club.”
Connor Chivell won all six of his rubbers for Horsham, while Ben Dunn dropped just one.
Darcie Landrigan put in her best performance representing the association by winning five rubbers as well and Maddison Hooper played well representing the association for the first time.
Pekin said the association will now look forward to the Donohue Shield to be held in Warrnambool in August.
“We’ll keep practising for now and start putting teams together for that,” he said.
