CWA Victoria has declared May membership month - a month when interested women are invited to attend a meeting to hear what CWA is all about. However, it is not the only time branches welcome prospective members.
Branch members in Victoria are concerned that many branches may close if membership does not increase and invite women of all ages to visit them and learn more about CWA. There is more to CWA than (to quote an old cliche) tea and scones.
CWA has been active in all states of Australia from 1922 to 1938, followed by a postal branch in 1939 and the Northern Territory in 1961. CWA Victoria formed on March 12, 1923, Associated Country Women of the World in 1933 and Australia in 1945.
The CWA is a strong lobby group, ensuring authorities are aware of what communities need and advocating for a range of social issues. This year members are supporting the following, theme: share the friendship; state project, archives (her story); country of study Denmark; thanksgiving fund, Crohn's and Colitis Australia; social issues focus, homelessness and affordable housing.
