The battle of Beersheba took place on October 31, 1917, as part of the wider British offensive collectively known as the third Battle of Gaza.
The final phase of this all-day battle was the famous mounted charge of the 4th Light Horse Brigade, led by Rupanyup man James Lawson.
Horsham RSL Sub-branch vice-president Jim Amos said a luncheon at the RSL on Tuesday, October 31, would remember the last great cavalry charge – which was also the most famous.
He said the luncheon was open to every reservist and would take the place of a National Reserve Forces Day commemoration in Horsham. National Reserve Forces Day is on July 2 but insufficient numbers available to commemorate the day also contributed to the move to October.
Mr Amos said people could register their interest for the luncheon with the RSL; phone 5382 5222.
