The Wimmera Mail-Times and Business Horsham joined forces to host the shopping event on Friday.
Shopper Fiona McKay said the sale was a great incentive to get people out and shopping locally.
“The chance to purchase products of high quality at a great price drove me to do a bit of spending today,” she said.
Mrs McKay bought her two grandchildren baby clothes from Toyworld and Just Juniors’ two-day baby linen pop-up shop.
Toyworld owner Ange Ballinger said the sale had encouraged people to shop locally.
“Without customers coming into our stores, there is no need for us to be here,” she said.
Travelling from Melbourne, BJ Pridham heard Wheat, Milk, Sugar had “the best coffee in town”.
“I figured if it was awesome coffee, then I needed to try it out while I am here,” he said.
Mr Pridham brought his son Archie along for a scoop of gelato.
“We were not aware of the sale but now that we are, we will have to check it out. We are always up for a good bargain,” he said.
Warracknabeal’s Lorraine Gibson decided to stop past Maria Da Ros.
“I’m after a jumper, but if I can get a good bargain then I’m going to grab it up,” she said.
Harvey Norman franchisee Tristan Wessling said the business offered special prices on all stock.
“Rather than traveling to Melbourne, people can get the same prices here – but with the excellent country service that we offer,” he said.
Mr Wessling said when people decided to shop locally, it supported the whole community.
“The money tends to go through many businesses, which helps keep this a prosperous area,” he said.
Forty Winks owner Di Hayes said it was important for the community to keep money in the town and support businesses.
“We need to make sure the money stays here for the future prospect of Horsham,” she said.
Wimmera Mail Times sales manager Clint King said shoppers took advantage of Horsham Rural City Council’s free parking and it was great to see the city centre so busy. He said the Lions club’s sausage sizzle proved popular.
Shoppers had a chance to win a share of $1000 in Shop Horsham gift cards.
The mega draw of $500 in Shop Horsham gift cards went to Barrie Hahne. Six other winners – of a $200 draw, $100 draw and four winners of $50 each – were announced across the day.
