Judge James Montgomery told Sam Harrison, of Horsham, the way he raised his young daughters was appalling.
“Parents are trusted with the safety of their children. Parents are supposed to be mature people,” he said.
Judge Montgomery said Harrison’s behaviour was “protracted offending of two young children, children who have lost the innocence of youth”.
Harrison pleaded guilty at the County Court in Ballarat to a string of assault charges on his two daughters aged between seven and 12.
He was sentenced to three years and three months’ jail, with a non-parole period of two years and three months.
The court was told on one occasion, Harrison assaulted his daughter with a golf club when she came inside the house after waiting in the car.
On the same day, Harrison put her in the shower fully clothed and slapped her.
