The Burras played a better brand of contested football on the way to a 14.9 (93) to 11.6 (72) win.
Coach Damian Cameron said he knew the Tigers would set themselves up well for the contest.
“We expected them to challenge us just as they did,” he said. “In the end, though, I felt we were in control for most of the match and it was only through brief lapses that they managed to get goals throughout the game.”
Cameron had emphasised before the game how important it would be to make a good start. His side did just that as it kicked five goals to three in the opening quarter to establish a 12-point lead.
Kade Petering and Ollie Young were often the catalyst driving the Burras forward through the middle of the ground.
“Their decision making and skill execution is up there with the best in the league,” Cameron sad.
Inaccuracy in front of goals cost Minyip-Murtoa in the second quarter as the Tigers closed to within five points at the main break.
Billy Hayes was once again a standout for Nhill.
Nhill coach Alan Bennett praised his hard-working midfielder.
“He just goes out there and wins a lot of contested football each week,” he said. “His work-rate is phenomenal.”
The away team straightened up in the third-quarter to edge ahead by 17 points. They continued on in the final term to win by 21 points.
Cameron praised his defenders for their continued good form.
“Each week our defenders are getting the job done,” he said. “Nhill had plenty of inside-50 opportunities but our defence held strong to keep them out.”
Regular full back Brayden Ison was moved forward for the day and slotted four goals as Jae McGrath returned to play in the back six.
Cameron said the versatility of his players was a great thing to have.
“We want to keep it settled as much as possible but it is good to have the option to play guys at each end,” he said. “We just thought that would work well this week, and it did. Jae’s opponent barely touched the ball so we moved him higher up the ground and he continued to do well.”
Bennett said the Burras were too slick for his side.
“They moved the ball so well,” he said. “There was still a lot of positives to take out of the game. The big things for us is how that translates in the next couple of weeks.”
