Even until David’s last days, his wish was still to help others going through this terrible illness called cancer.
David was diagnosed with melanoma at the end of July 2016. He had two brain surgeries and many advanced treatments during his battle.
We were so appreciative of the efforts of Dr Stephen Brown, his colleagues, and staff at Stawell Regional Health, Ballarat Base Hospital and the Austin Hospital.
We were blessed to have such amazing professionals guiding and supporting us during David’s illness.
Despite all the medical advances with treatments, David’s cancer was too aggressive and had advanced to other organs in his body.
Only immediate family and close friends knew the seriousness of David’s health. He was a proud man and never became a victim of his illness.
David passed away on March 22, 2017. On Tuesday, March 21 he was having chemotherapy and discussing with Linda and Beth, his beautiful oncology nurses, the best way to assist those who struggle financially during treatment.
These were the people David wanted to help the most, with a tank of petrol, some money for groceries- just to make the day a bit easier.
This was his vision and the ‘Andy Mann Foundation’ became a reality to fund such things.
On Thursday, March 9 I shaved David’s magnificent beard off. He raised a little over $2100.00, a great kick start to his foundation.
In conjunction with the administrative and oncology staff at Stawell Regional Health the funds from the foundation will be distributed so patients can be provided with fuel or Woolworth’s cards to assist with daily struggles.
Jordan Little has decided to ‘chop off his top knot’ to raise money for a good cause.
The Andy Mann Foundation was deemed a worthy recipient for two reasons. Firstly, it was founded by a local and secondly, funds would specifically benefit those in the area.
On Sunday, July 2, a fundraiser is being held at the Nash Hotel starting at 1pm. The biggest donation from the fundraiser will get the ‘first cut’.
There’ll be free music and other fundraising events happening throughout the day.
Jordan has created an account for this and will present the final amount to the foundation following the event.
I would like to thank the Stawell community for their support. What a wonderful place to live. David would be so proud, knowing his family was so well cared for.
I miss him every day, that wicked sense of humour and the strength that surrounded him. I think that’s why people were so drawn to him.
David was an extremely valued member of the Stawell Community.
He was an active member of Stawell Regional Health (Hospital Board), Parks and gardens (Committee) and all local sporting clubs.
He was also the Town Hall publican for many years and provided many ‘pearls of wisdom’ to patrons over the years.
This is an invitation to the Stawell community as a whole to get behind Jordan Little and support this fundraising event, in the spirit it was initiated, to support a worthy cause.
Until David’s dying day, it was his passion, to always give back to our community. He was such a generous man.
If this fund can make just one person’s day a little less stressful, then we have achieved his goal.
Thank you to my beautiful family and friends, the continued support and love has never faded.
