Bruno Puls celebrated his 101st birthday on Monday with his family.
Mr Puls’ granddaughter Trish Benz said it was a great day of celebrations.
“In the morning it was just immediate family,” she said.
“As we all live in Melbourne, we all co-ordinated to see him and some of his nieces and nephews came in the afternoon.” Mr Puls lives at Horsham’s Trinity Manor.
Ms Benz said he was the oldest man the manor has ever had.
Mr Puls was born in Dooen in 1916 and had four brothers and six sisters.
He had two sons, Brian and Dale, along with three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Ms Benz said her grandfather was still very alert and cheeky.
“He’s a humble man though and doesn’t like a huge fuss,” she said.
Mr Puls loves to read and is happy in his own company.
“He misses his wife Mona dearly, who passed away 11 years ago,” Ms Benz said.
“He's been in the rest home since and still rode his bike to get the paper at 90.
“He says he doesn't eat much these days but he woofed down his favourite pecan pie on Monday.”
