Roos coach Al McKinnon said his side gave itself a chance every week but had built up a greater sense of belief in recent rounds. “Everyone has been a bit better on the track the past couple of weeks,” he said. “We have built ourselves up a bit more as a team, especially since we last played the Saints.”
When the sides met in round two this season it was a comfortable 62-point win for the Saints but Dimboola showed plenty of fight early.
That intensity and fight has lasted longer each games as the season has progressed.
“Other than a few lapses we could have been right in the game against Warrack,” he said. “We let them kick away a bit in the end.”
Ben Miller and Tom McGee will be important players to help their side maintain its pressure against the Saints but McKinnon said it comes down to all of his players buying in. “We want to be able to pressure them all over the ground,” he said. “It takes every player to do their job to allow us to manage that.”
The Saints have struggled to play consistent football at the intensity coach Luke Fisher has asked of them this season. Sam Clyne is still a key figure week in, week out and a brigade of young players have showed they have strong football futures.
“We will probably look to exploit their lack of height,” McKinnon said. “If there is one area we will have an advantage it is that we will have a few more solid bodies.”
