Census data released on Tuesday shows the region’s seven local government areas – Horsham, Hindmarsh, Yarriambiack, West Wimmera, Northern Grampians, Ararat, and Buloke – all had higher median weekly household incomes in 2016 compared with 2011.
Horsham residents had the biggest increase of any municipality, with the average income up $154 a week.
The municipality’s average weekly household income in 2016 was $1110.
Ararat Rural City had a similar increase, with the median household weekly income up $147 to $991.
All other municipalities had increases of $100 a week or more except for Buloke, with the median weekly household income up $97 to $839.
Comparatively, weekly incomes in larger regional municipalities were up about $60 more a week than Wimmera areas on average.
The average income increased by $172 a week in Ballarat, $193 a week in Greater Bendigo, and $195 a week in Greater Geelong.
