Landcare Australia this week announced Junior Landcare and Momentum Energy’s Powerful Youth Projects grant recipients.
More than 240 schools, childcare centres and youth groups across Victoria will share in more than $200,000.
Horsham’s Green Park Kindergarten, Dimboola’s St Peter’s Lutheran Primary School, and the Nhill Early Years Centre will put their grants towards sensory gardens.
Hopetoun P-12 College’s VCAL students received a grant for their Sustainable Living and Agriculture in the Mallee – SLAM – program.
Kaniva College will develop a native wonderland, while Warracknabeal Primary School’s allocation will go towards a garden.
Minyip Primary School will establish an edible garden, while Horsham’s Roberts Avenue Kindergarten will develop a water project to enhance its outdoor learning environment.
Landcare launched Powerful Youth Projects this year to encourage new ideas about how children could protect the natural environments in their communities.
Landcare Australia chief executive Tessa Jakszewicz said the grants were awarded for hands-on projects that taught children about sustainability.
“We know there is a significant need for funding for Junior Landcare projects so it’s fantastic to be working in partnership with Momentum Energy to support so many great projects in Victoria,” she said.
“We know that children learn through doing and can’t wait to see the results of these innovative and creative projects.”
Landcare Australia has not released details of individual funding allocations.
