For the first time this year, the college has school captains in year 6, year 9 and year 12. Previously, the college only had year 12 captains.
Mr Neall said so far this year, the model was working well. “It gives the students a voice and a chance to lead,” he said.
“We always had a student representative council at the school, but we’ve never had year 9 and year 6 captains before.
“The students have the opportunity to communicate directly with me about what’s happening in the school.”
Mr Neall said the year 6 captains, Braithan Dodd and Dash Adams were now working on a project that would see them interview students to get feedback about the school.
“They have planned out their questions and have had training so they can run small group discussions at school,” he said.
“In those small groups, they will be able to chat about a range of issues and about how they feel at school.”
Mr Neall said primary school students haven’t had an option to voice their opinions about the school before.
“It’s a good opportunity for them to let loose about what’s going on,” he said.
Braithan said he wanted to be someone that younger students could look up to.
Captain and year 12 student Daniella Gajic said she always wanted to be a captain and have more responsibility at school.
“We have to run assemblies, represent the school and be a role model,” she said.
