Great Western v Woorn-Mortlake
IT WAS so close, yet so far for Great Western in the Mininera and District league’s round 13 at the weekend.
After trailing by 33 points at the first break, the Lions turned the tables on Woorndoo-Mortlake to narrow the deficit to four points at halftime.
A second win of the season was within reach for the Lions as they trailed by a single goal at three-quarter time.
But it was the Tigers who had the edge, notching out an eight-point victory at Great Western.
Tyler Schafer stood tall for the Tigers and was named the team’s best player, while for the Lions it was Luke Notting and Brady Miller who led the way.
Ararat Eagles v Moy-Willaura
A FOUR-GOAL haul from Rhys Cronin has helped Moyston-Willaura to a win on the Pumas’ home turf on Saturday.
The Pumas earned a big victory at the hands of the Ararat Eagles.
It was always going to be a tough day out for the 11th-placed Eagles as they came up against a side well and truly in contention for finals football.
Aaron Pianta, with three majors, was also influential for the Pumas as the team extended a six-goal lead at halftime to 55 points at the final siren.
Jeremy Cronin was named the team’s best player.
For the Eagles, it was Zach Jenkins and Jesse Hutchins who caught the most attention. John Cunningham, with two majors, was the Eagles’ leading goalkicker.
