Seb was awarded for his efforts, being named in the top two umpires and earning the chance to officiate the under-15 boys’ gold medal match.
Jackson Walsgott was the boundary umpire for the game and was the field umpire for the playoff between the fifth- and sixth-placed teams.
Seb also officiated the bronze medal match.
Ella provided field, boundary and goal umpiring.
Team manager Kingsley Dalgleish said it was great Seb was rewarded with the gold medal match.
“There were 25 umpires from across the states and territories,” he said.
AFL professional umpire Dean Margetts was at the school sports championships mentoring umpires.
“He was there mentoring, watching, analysing and giving feedback,” Kingsley said.
The umpires attended a Western Australian Football League umpires training session.
“Geoff and Brett Dalgleish spoke about field umpiring. They gave them some game tips and tricks,” Kingsley said.
“You could really see the difference by their last game.”
Jackson said he enjoyed his third time at the championships.
“I thought it was going to be warmer, but the ovals were about the same to here and it was a good standard of footy,” he said. “I got to do mostly field this year, a bit of boundary and some goal umpiring, too.”
Jackson said he officiated 10 games across the five days.
“I got a lot of feedback from AFL umpires and I feel like it has made me a better already,” he said.
