Acting Senior Sergeant David Flood said the 28-year-old was detected driving an allegedly stolen black Ford sedan at high speeds around Ararat and Nhill on Tuesday evening.
Police will allege he was then seen driving towards Ballarat on the Western Highway at excessive speeds, with officers activating their lights and beginning a pursuit about 7pm.
"As a result, deflation devices (spikes) were deployed on the Western Highway and the pursuit continued at low speed onto Haddon, where the offender was apprehended without injury," Acting Senior Sergeant Flood said.
"Once the deflation devices did their work, there was no excessive speed."
It’s believed he was arrested along Blackberry Lane in Haddon.
Witnesses said more than five police cars were involved in the operation.
The man will be charged with driving offences and theft of a motor vehicle.
He was remanded in custody overnight to appear in court on Wednesday.
Acting Senior Sergeant Flood said the black Ford appeared to have been allegedly stolen from Seaford railway station.
